The Kussassi are an ethnic group primarily residing in the West African region, specifically in Burkina Faso (in the South) and Ghana (in the North). Their main language is Kusaal, with two dialects, Tondé spoken in Burkina Faso and Agolé in Ghana. Related ethnic groups include the Dagaras, Dagombas, Mampoursi, Yaanas, Mossi, and others. Kusaal is a tonal language with its own writing system, although the use of writing is limited. With an estimated population in Burkina Faso of approximately 300,000 to 400,000 people, the Kussassi have a rich culture and ancestral traditions that are often passed down orally. They are primarily engaged in agriculture, cultivating crops such as millet, maize, and sorghum. (Image d’illustration)
