British Council. Study Opportunity in Language Testing – Scholarships for sub-Saharan Africa. Are you interested in developing your expertise in language testing and assessment?

Lancaster University and the British Council are offering two scholarships for applicants in sub-Saharan Africa to study the Postgraduate Certificate in Language Testing (Online).

The programme is designed for part-time online study and can be completed alongside work and other commitments.
The first step is to attend the webinar to find out more about the programme, the scholarship, and the application process. The webinar will take place on Tuesday 21 April 2026, 1:00pm–1:45pm UTC. It is free to attend, registration is required, and it will be recorded, so you should still register even if you cannot join live. Registration closes on Monday 20 April 2026 at 2:00pm BST.

Applicants must apply using the scholarship application form linked below. Please do not apply directly to Lancaster University through the university application portal at this stage.
The deadline to submit your Expression of Interest is Tuesday 5 May 2026 at 22:59 UTC. After that, expressions of interest will be reviewed by a panel and shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief online interview – shortlisted candidates will be notified by Friday 15 May 2026. The provisional interview date is Tuesday 19 May 2026.

Eligibility
This scholarship is available to applicants who live in and are citizens of, or are legally resident in, sub-Saharan African countries.
This is a brilliant opportunity to build specialist expertise in language testing, study with an internationally respected university, and join a global professional network in assessment and education. The scholarship covers programme fees for the one-year PgCert in Language Testing, with the possibility of progression to the Postgraduate Diploma and Master’s qualifications in future, subject to funding opportunities and student performance.
